Charges for Hallmarking
Read below for an outline of our charges for services at Edinburgh Assay Office. For further information on detailed pricing, express services and more, visit the Resources & Downloads section.
Please note that all charges at Edinburgh Assay Office are subject to VAT at 20%.
Please note that if you have paid for your hallmarking job via bank transfer, you must call the Assay Office to notify us of this. This is because bank transfers take 1-3 business days to process.
Statutory Hallmarking
This is our basic hallmarking service, providing a hallmark that complies with all current legislation. The hallmarks applied are of a standard layout. These are restricted to a maximum height of up to 1.5mm for struck marks and 1.0mm for laser marks. Convention hallmarks are charged at the same rate.
The below prices apply to gold, silver, platinum and palladium. Each type of metal will incur the minimum charge.
Minimum charges include:
- Statutory Hallmarking
- Sponsor’s Mark
- Handling & Packaging Charges
For 26 or more items, prices are as follows:
APPLIED BY PUNCH
- Articles under 100 grams: 70p
- Application of a Sponsor’s Mark: 26p
APPLIED BY LASER
- Articles under 100 grams: £1.10 (up to 1.00mm in height)
- Application of a Sponsor’s Mark: 26p
Some items may require application of laser marks where a struck mark is not suitable.
- If a hallnote has been split by the Assay Office between pieces that can be traditionally marked and those requiring a laser mark, the items marked by laser will be charged at £3.07 per article up to a maximum of 10 articles
Please note that for any parcel that has been split with more than 10 articles requiring a laser mark, a separate hallnote will be completed on your behalf and these items will be charged as per the price list. This will sometimes mean you will be charged two minimum charges.
